Jesus sat in the temple courts and watched as people put money into the offering boxes. Many rich people came and gave large amounts, making sure others could see how much they were giving.

Then a poor widow came quietly and placed in two small coins—almost nothing in value.

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth, but she gave out of her poverty—all she had to live on.”

The disciples looked at her with new understanding. What seemed small in the eyes of the world was great in the eyes of God.

Jesus showed them that God does not measure giving by amount, but by the heart behind it.
